Oh and for all you people who've bent them and then bent them back, I did this too, but when push comes to shove on the trail it bends back really easily. Took me 3 hours to get home one day beacuse It kept crumpling. Ended up putting a piece of pipe over it to get home but I really dont reccomend using one that has previously been bent

well I think for the time being I am going to go with the ZJ one and see how that works for a while. I would like to get rustys conversion like mikeswrangler has. That thing looks sweet, but funds are low.

It was a large log that squeezed its way in there, honestly dsgray got stuck on it first and then decided that instead of movie it off the trail, to let me get caught on it. its not my fault you ran over it, your supposed to be looking out for that kind of stuff

Buy RK's HD steering. I have it, and I have a feeling it wont break Bob I was interested in the RK steering but their site says its for lifts 5-7 inches.

Yea who dosent want a ZJ tie rod Me, I want cross over steering. 1.25 DOM Tubes with Heim joints! Atom bomb can't bend that!

been looking this up on the net a little bit, are YJ steering setups different than TJs because of the leaf spring/coil spring difference?

As some of you may remember, I bent my tie rod a couple of months ago. The best thing you can do is replace the piece of crap steering stuff all together with a good aftermarket setup. Now some of us may not have the money to do that right away so I looked into other ideas. I wanted to get a new (used) tie rod and cover it with some good steel.
Problem; How to attach said steel to the tie rod. I know how to weld but I don’t have enough experience to know all the tricks of the trade. I figured it would weaken the tie rod itself if I welded it at each end. A friend of a friend showed me how to do this and I like his method. He had one that he had already done so I went ahead and bought that one off him. Next time I can do it myself.
1. Get a tie rod that has NOT been bent. 2. Find a length of good steel tube that will fit fairly snug. 3. Drill four holes, two on each side, about 2 or 3 inches from the ends. 4. Place the tubing onto the tie rod. 5. Fill the holes with weld (plug weld) and grind smooth.
Now you have a ‘very’ tuff tie rod. Of course, you still have tie rod ends that are stock and can prove to be a week link in the system. But, it is cheep and it isn’t going to bend again.
I will find out Sunday on OFR just how tuff it really is. ;D
