Rolling back on an incline while in gear and brake up while parked. Any thoughts?

yes, Stuff happens. just like you can turn the engine with a breaker bar at the cranck, your jeep weighs enough, and your brake sucks enough that when on a steep grade, it will move ever so slowly. try putting the jeep into 4wd lo, and 1st gear then try it.. should not move.
You have seen my driveway, my jeep will roll right down it unless it is either backed in, or the wheels are choked.

sorry ment to add, turn the jeep around if possible, back it in, the park brake should work better with resistance foward rather than backwards.

Allways park with it in Reverse,it is the lowest gear and it is non sycro it is direct gear to gear mesh.

you adjust your ebrake lately? that might help out a bit.

My guess is your auto adjusters arent tightening the rear drums. Mine atleast can hold the jeep on every hill i've parked on.

My guess is your auto adjusters arent tightening the rear drums. Mine atleast can hold the jeep on every hill i've parked on. similar to my thoughts...my rear drums were so worn that my e brake wouldnt hold. I changed those and it was fine, not even any adjustments to the cable

so the brass synchros are transferring the power in the forward gears?

It has been a long time since i learned this stuff in school but the forward gears or any Sycronized gears are constantly meshed and are just locked in by the syncros. Reverse or any non syncronized gear are not constantly meshed and to engage actually slide in to mesh.That is why on a granny low 4 speed such as a n SM465 or an NP435 first gear can only be engaged when stopped,they are non syncronized gears.On a big truck with an Eaton Fuller or any other fully nonsyncro trans you have to match the engine speed to the trans speed before you can shift so the gears will slide together.The way a syncro works the best i can remember it is that when you got to shift the rings in the syncro will quickly spin up to the speed of the engine and trans and lock in the constantly meshed gears.Does that make any sense?

As my memory serves me the synchros spin up the gears to match speeds, then the tranny goes into gear and is held by the gears not synchro. Hence once you are in a gear its in gear and synchros are not transfering force.
