I want to make my Jeep have little bit more balls than the typical one on the road. Once i get enough money i'm going to get a lift and DEFINATELY some bigger tires (than the P225/75R15 that i have). But when talking to some friends they said if i get bigger tires that i'll need to also get new brakes! Meaning more money to spend. Then they said if i lift my Jeep 3 to 4 inches which i was planning on, i would need some more modifications. I have no experience working with any type of vehicle (i can change my oil but that's about it) and i want to learn more on how to do it, so i'm gonna end up dong the lift myself. Anyway, my main question is if i do get a lift and bigger tires what else will i have to spend my money on to make my Jeep run as good as it does now?
Also, about the tires, i do not want to buy new rims, just too much money. What is the biggest size that i will be able to fit on my current rims?

well there is some info about your jeep that you need to give us to find out what size tires you want to get. What size is your wheel? 15x7 or 15x8? You shouldent have to upgrade your brakes at all. If you want to go higher than 3 inches you will need some sort of t-case drop or motor mount lift (mml) some people in tj's are running 4 inches with just a t-case drop and have no vibes...others have vibes at 2 inches. you should be able to fit 31x10.5R15 on your jeep right now without and major rubbing. you may get some but not a lot. if you have any more questions feel free to ask, im not always on this site so it may take a while for me to respond but im sure others will help answer more questions

Larger tires create more rolling mass, but the stock brakes are stout enough to withstand larger tires. Dont worry about that. Now if you mount 22" Dubs on a Chevy Tahoe.... I would consider larger brakes.
Look into a bugdet boost from Rubicon Express. Acouple of hundred bucks. As far as wheels go... I would get an after market set..Black steelies go for $45 a peice. Polished aluminum Eagle 589's can be picked up for about $100 each. Its up to you tho'.

I believe my tires are 15x7. If i can get rims as cheap as $45 then i'll go for that. Sadly i only have a 2.5l engine (wish now that i got a 4.0l but it was the right price at the right time). I've gotten the cold air intake, which seemed to give it alittle more power. I was wondering if i got the bigger tires i should get a custom exhaust to give it alittle more power? Or should i not even bother. i was thinking about getting one eventually anyway. As for the budget lift i'll look into that. Is it as easy as installing new shocks? Another question for you very informative people... I know that i lift gives you higher clearance for bigger tires as well as better wheel articulation, what are the advantages of a body lift?

Body lift will give you more room for tires. If you arent going big, 33" or 35", I wouldnt worry about it.
Before you spend money on intakes, exhaust and whatever else to get more power......consider new gears. 2.5 has enough power for the trails but you will prolly want a closer gear ratio to compensate for the larger tires.

Exactly what I was thinking! take the vehicle off road, I am assuming that it is a street driven jeep most of the time. so you will want to keep it's road manners as close to stock as possible if not better! We have so people that run stock suspension in our club, Neal being one of them! Neal is completly stock except for that he has 30 inch tires (TJ's can fit 31's completely stock) and a cold air intake, and Neal drives that thing every where we go, when he shows up of course! Once you go off road, you will see what the limitations of you vehicle is! then I would look into a spacer lift. (all said and done, about $200-$300 with shocks), this is also called a Budget Boost or BB. believe it or not, a 2" lift makes a big difference in a TJ, and you can retain your factory tires!
let your jeep grow with your experience!
I have seen stock jeeps driven by experienced driver fair 10 times better than a way too modified jeep driven by and inexperience driver

The 2.5L has 4.11 gears. If you stay with a 31" or at most 32" tire, there are mods you can do to the 2.5L to have enough power to make it liveable.
31's on a 2.5" lift is a good setup for a 4 cyl. Very capable daily-driver/weekend warrior.
I had a set of 32's on about 4" of lift and it was no rocket, but I was happy overall after some performance mods.

I've been doing some research online and i've heard some good things about the Black Diamond lifts. I've found a 3" lift for 526. Comes with the transfer drop and the 4 shocks. Out of all the lifts i've seen online this seems to be the best price for what i get. www.4wheelerssupply.com/Products_00002/index.htmlThe link to it!! Also about the tires. I've been on TireRack.com and i'm considering the Firestone Destination M/T. Now are the 285/75-16 31" tires? And if i get these i won't need to purchase new rims. They'll fit mine, which have 235/75-16 stock tires. And the best thing is they are 145 a piece. So, all in all, i'm looking at 1251 if i get the spare replaced too. Which is actually what i was planning on buying. So how's that sound? Seems good to me but i'm not as experienced as you guys are with this stuff. (Also check out my winch questions too)

I would not buy tires from the tire rack or from the internet for a couple reasons!
1. Support local business! 2. if they are out of balance you're screwed! you will need to pay another shop to fix the problem of the "internet" shop (and yes the tire rack sucks at balancing tires 3. there will be no one to provide warranty, like evey 3000 miles I get a free tire rotation (which I could easily do my self but I am lazy) this would normally cost about $30 every time 4. when the new tires are put on locally, they almost always throw in a free allignment (which you will definatly need after a lift cause you tires will pigeon toe) this is another $55 5. support local business! <- big one
Depending on where you are located, I am sure you can find an excellent deal on rim/tire combo for a great price.

if you are going to buy tires locally, give them a call, see if they match any prices, some business will take an online price into consideration, as long as they are still making some money on the sale.
