You wheel it you roll it, is the way things are seeming to go for me.
What size tube do people think is nessicary for cages. I was thinking 1.5x.250 DOM for load bearing links and 1.75x .125 for triangulated members.
Whats your opinion? And how many times have you rolled? I want something I can live through to build another jeep. I'm caging the 92 XJ.

hmmmm Agree witht he wheel it you roll it buisness, thats why im caging too. Had a few too many close calls. For you I would say the 1.5 x .250 DOM would work. You're roof does already provide you with some structural support. But why use the 1.75 x .125 for the triangulated pieces?? Added strength??
1.5 x .250 is pretty heavy stuff from what I have seen. In the TJ I am definatly ripping out the entire stock cage and useing 1.75 x .125. That is what I have seen most aftermarket cages made out of so there has got to be a reason for that.
And another question would be the best way to tie that into an xj's unibody? I will also have to cage an XJ. You could reinforce the unibody with some angle iron and then tie into it.
For the TJ I was thinking of using something similar to M.O.R.E's frame tie in with an angled piece attached to the frame, a bushing, and then a bolt attaching it to the mount. Not sure if that would be strong enough though. Anyone know of a better way to tie it in. I dont like the way the stock cage ties into the body. I would rather have somethign stronger.
If you reinfoced the unibody on the xj you could do somethign similar with it too.

The XJ has 6 major structual frame points where the suspention ties in, I'm going to tie the cage in there, as far as plating, I plan on plating the "frame" with 4x4 angle from the front lower controlarm mounts all the way back through the main eye mounts for the leafs. Probably replacing the rear mounts.

for the rear, probably make new perches for the springs, which have a plate, that i can add a plate above to sandwidth the unibody and bolt the cage to. Front I have to look at still.

but seriously why break something thats not broken, my short arms work well for what they are and my max tire size at the moment. You with going to 8 inches and 33's full caged and long arms makes sense in the front and keep the leaves they are cheap

back to cages. is DOM nessiary, or would HREW work?? Any thoughts? I know its cheaper.

HREW is fun, but I'm not using it for anything structural thanks. Probably use it for my fenders, and possibly Exo, if it comes to that.

oh its been decided its being used for my tube fenders, because its not structural. But how about cages. Anyone besides bobby have an opion on this??
