Anyone know if stock leafs from a 96 xj will fit on a 90 xj? Not sure if they changed anything on them in that time frame.

thanks, hopefully my "low profile" back end will look a bit better with new to me leafs, atm my drivers side is broken...they didnt look very good since i bought the jeep

I have seen your XJ, not for nothing but anything will help it! Your springs have more de-arch than lift springs in the oposite direction hehe!
I would say go for it! will also flex a lot better when all said and done.

yeah i knew they were pretty bad, one of em finally broke and thats whats making make the move to get more, temporary solution doesn't quite cuz it (muffler clamps are soooo versitile ;D)

Here is a picture of the broken leaf: just going to try soaking the bolt and nut for a few days in pb then we will try the breaker bar and the impact wrench again...if that doesn't work i may not see a trail for quite a while

WOW. I don't know if I'd even drive that thing on the street, Jay. That is the MAIN leaf. I mean, the springs in my Waggy are cracked and broken, but they are middle leafs, not the ones that bolt to the truck.

I don't want to drive it but since it is my only vehicle i don't have much of a choice the clamp holds it together well and it's not like i drive a hell of alot a day. I know it's bad and thats why I'm in a rush to fix it. Just those god dam bolts are being a pita. I have replacement leafs, ubolts and all that crap just can't get those bolts out

I had to use a sawzall and grinder to cut mine out. I would go for that type method rather than driving with no main. Best not to even drive it, you could find yourself on the side of the road (or into a tree) with the rearaxle not under the jeep.

after u cut them out how did u put new ones in those? i was told there is a welded nut on the inside of the frame and if the bolt won't come lose that the nut inside has to be cut/grinded off. Did u have to open ur frame to get to them?

Break the nut off the frame by using the correct size socket and a breakerbar with a pipe on it (on the other end of the bolt which you can get to).
After that I sawzalled the bolt shaft on each side of the main leaf bushing. Then removed the spring.
Next I took the angle grinder and cut the bottom off the part that bulges out from the frame (where the nut is inside, its not in the frame)
Since you snapped the nut off with the breaker bar it will be free inside there, It was a PITA to get out through the little hole in the bottom but it came out.
Then I installed new springs, I need to weld a plate over the hole still.
Let me know if anythings unclear.

You need to get a new bolt, and new nut, and I put a washer on each side as well. I used Grade 8 hardware. Since you cut the hole to get the old one out, you can put 2 fingers up in there to put the new one in, and I was able to get a boxwrench on it for tightening. If I have time tonight I"ll snap a picture, but you should be able to figure it out from my description i think.

NOT in the frame. In the springperch which connects to the frame. The actual frameboxmember does not have the nut in it.
