Last Sunday I was driving my 95 Wrangler along like any other day, when I stopped at a light she stalled out on me. Battery's still giving juice ,starter's kickin over ,Motor's turning but will not run! Checked for spark in the distributor and nothing, so I changed the ignition coil and still nothing. Someone suggested replacing the camshaft position sensor, did so and still nothing... I have been told by a three different people that it could be my timing chain, need HELP have not drivin my jeep in 8 days. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

could be a number of things, timing chain would be one, but you would have heard it before it went. the easiest way to tell if it is a timing chain is to pull the valve cover off, bump the motor, if the valve train does not move, then it is a timing chain.

When you say "bump" the motor do you mean try starting it or literally "bump" the motor?

you can just turn it from the dampening pully on the crankshaft use a breaker bar and socket. but make sure you go the right way.

No luck with getting her runnin yet! turned the cranckshaft and the valve train moved as she's supposed too, so it's not the timming chain?? I changed the auto shutdown relay and still wont start. Someone suggested that the computer may have died, but not sure how to test it!! anyone know the cost of that thing and where I may be able to find one reasonably cheap???( i'm poor)

Have you checked the crank position sensor? I forget if someone has suggested that on this thread.

You mentioned that you changed the Automatic Shutdown Relay but have you verified it is getting power with a test light?
This will sound dumb but since nobody has yet asked, have you checked all you're fuses?

This will sound dumb but since nobody has yet asked, have you checked all you're fuses? I have checked every fuse that I could see. Have not checked to see if there is power getting to the auto shutdown relay, will do that today! thanx. I have a friend of a friend coming over with a diagnostic cpu, hopefully that will help pinpoint whats wrong with her......

Well it has been three weeks, and I still dont have my JEEP fixed! We could not get the diagnostic scanner to communicate with my engine controler(brain) ?? things I have done:changed the fuel pump in gas tank, changed all relay switches, new ignition coil ,new camshft position sensor, stripped wirring harness to look for broken fusible links(Found none). So far I have spent close to five hudred dollars in parts and time and still dont have her running!! I was messing aroud with the power distribution center as my cousin tried to start her up and the engine started purring for about a minute then shut down:( ?? So apparently there is a loose connection right??? well we took the power dist. center and gave it a good cleaning ,checked all the connections and there pretty snug. She starts with a very low idle then revs to about 1100 rpms and then shut down, I am really !@#$@# baffled!! Is there some sensor that is telling the motor to shut down, loose or faulty wiring ?? Need some helpfull input and or suggestions...

Checked and replaced the crank position sensor, still nothing!! I still think it is the CPS. You may have a bad one but more than likely it is out of place. It detects motion generated by the starter during start up. If it is out of place by a fraction it does not detect that motion and no spark is produced. IIRC the bole holes are slotted a bit. Try lossening it up just a bit and while someone else cranks your heep over move it ever so slightly. It might just fire up for you.

Well it's going on two months and still no jeep:( about two weeks ago my cousin tapped on the relay box (next to battery) while I was trying to crank her over and she started right up. The bad thing is she would only stay running for a little over a minute, then she would idle up to about 2000 rpm the battery gauge would go all the way to the end of the red line then she just stalls??? after all that we blew air into the relay box to clean it out then checked for loose connections but could find none......btw...thanx for all the input We figured the alternator was going so we tried pulling the positive side battery terminal to see if she still ran, as soon as we did the the inside hood light got really bright the blew out and she stalled. We re-connected the battery and tried to start her back up but there was nothing happening even when tapping on the relay box.
