How do you know when they are starting to go bad?
I have the 4.0L and Manual tranny (dont know what kind) on a TJ.

When you let the clutch out it doesn't move till the pedal is high.

Feels like when I let the clutch out it engages slightly then disengages, then slightly engages again, then disengages... then engages full. It happens quick and happens when your foot is almost off the clutch, BUT it also feels like it engages before this (when foot is midway on clutch.) So the vehicle is moving but kinda shimmies towards the end of a clutch cycle.
Also.... Because this is my jeep - it only does this when it rains. lol

Do TJ's still use a slave cylinder for the clutch? Checked the fluid lately?

Under the hood, it looks like a brake master cylinder.

I will check that. (I know that I have checked in the past with other vehicles, but I remember looking for this when I first got the vehicle and couldnt find one. I will have to look again.)

(I know that I have checked in the past with other vehicles, but I remember looking for this when I first got the vehicle and couldnt find one. I will have to look again.) Thanks. I know it's like comparing apples to oranges, but the slave cylinder reservoir on my YJ was located right behind the brake booster. I would imagine if a TJ had the same setup, it would be in the relatively same location.

if you fill it, and start having trouble putting the tranny into gear when the clutch is pressed, you will have to bleed the air out of the hydrolic clutch assembly. if the level is not too low, you should be alright.

slave is underneath, master is in the engine compartment. if it pumps up and gets better, let us know.
