it doesnt have a metal skid that could have been dented from wheeling? nope, it hasn't been. i've read in the manual that if you top off you will have trouble filling the tank completely...the dealer said there was nothing wrong

All YJ's and TJ's are like this from the dealership since I think 91 for teh 6cyl and 88 for the 4 bangers. Here read here www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/15to20gal.htmlAs far as I know, only works with YJ's

i have the 4 banger (15 gal tank) and my light comes on and i'm on the red line after 10 gallons. no dents in my gas skid. and i'm to scared to run it out to see. just cause it will hurt my pump.

same happens to me, and i have a 95 XJ. The light will come on, and the needle will be on or below E. i will go to fill it and it will take 16-17 gallons (after the light has been on for ~30 miles) and i have a 20.2 gallon tank. and its never been wheeled. my .02

i got an idea, why don't you guys stop worring about "is my fuel tank really empty when the light goes on ?"
the vehicle needs gas when the light goes on or the gauge reads low, THE END

id replace the gauge cluster, bulb or fuse.. and if that didnt fix it, id either buy a new jeep, or fill it when the needle pointed to the E.

nothing wrong with it, mine does it too
its a good warning, youll never go empty! cause you never know how low you actually are! my needle goes all the way down to empty with 4 gallons left!
