my budy broke a front shaft on his rub. we started at 6 last night and didnt finish till 1030. its a long story so im going to brake it down a lil. when the ujoit broke it tore off 3 of the ears and forced that axle in deeper then it should go. the side gear was pushed past the spins locking it in like a crossed threaded nut. so i bild a slide hammer and weld a 3/8 chain to the snub of the axle. a few mins. of slamming the slide and nothing moved, so we try to push it through from the other side. i pull the passigers side apart well dave too the diff cover off..only to find out that there isnt realy a center pin, but there is something that blocked access to the back of the broken axle. there wasnt anyway to push out the broken axle. take 3...i took the steering nuckle off the broek side and welded on a longer chain. then used a peace of half in plate held umagenst the ball joint..something the for the rod end of my jack to push against. its a ten ton jack and it took every bit power the jack had to free this thing up...when the axle findily let go there was a moment of silance... and a huge sigh of releaf... www.creeperjeep.net/Images/jay/axle3.jpg[/img] i would be lost with out my blue wrench and welder...

were the splines on that larry all twisted like it screwed into the side gears?

no...it was like it was pressed into the side gear.

the ears broke coosing the ujoint to rotate out on..something had to give to make room for the ujoint to fall out..i guess it pushed that axle in as it ripped the rest of the ears off...
