first let me start with a hello to everyone. I have been gone a little while since leaving rhode island but i'm back online. Now my issue is with transfer case bolts. My dad got a 92 yj for $800 and the thing is pretty sick (i'll post pics later). Jeepfan and i were working on it and have realized that most of the t-case skid nuts insude the frame are broken in there and the bolts are spinning. I'm going to cut the bolts to get them out but how do I re-attach the t-case skid? any help would be great, hopefully we can get the jeep on the road tomorrow.

Does it have a body lift?
On my '89, I had 1 broken bolt. I drilled a hole from the bottom of the frame all the way up through the top of the frame, making sure it was centered. I got a long 7" (maybe?) bolt, some large fender washers, a lock-washer, a nut, and I put the skidplate back on that way. It was tight with the 1" bodylift (enough room for your fingers and a wrench), but doable.
The bolt I used was either Grade 5 or 8. Double-check the length as well. It's been a couple years since I did it. You will need a long drill bit as well. I think I bought a 12" long 3/8" bit.

You can also cut a hole in the side of the frame to get the heads out once you cut them. Then you can slide nuts in there bolt the skid back up.
Thats what I had to do to my TJ. I am have a piece of angle I made that covers the holes and has new nuts welded in at the proper spacing to hold the tcase skid. I just havent put it on yet.
I have been running with the cuts in the side of my frame for 2 years now with no issues.

one thing to think of is, make a skid plate that will not bolt up into the frame, you could make a skid plate that will bolt through the sides of the frame rail. I will see if I can find a pic.

Now if you do a skid plate like this. Is a 1" body lift enough and a 1" motor lift?

it looks to me like the t-case has been clocked up. so i would think some massaging plus a body lift would be needed

Now if you do a skid plate like this. Is a 1" body lift enough and a 1" motor lift? I will be doing this type of skid, hopefully next summer. I will not be clock the T case, unless I can afford to flip and re-gear a Dana 300 (then I will obviously clock) I installed a 1" Body Lift a week before i broke my leg, so thats in, I will also use a 1" motor lift I am also notmounting the Tcase to the skid plate. But rather to a cross member that will lift it 1" higher so that it will be in the same orientation as it would have been in relation to the motor in stock form. There will not be a bushing between the tcase adn the crossmember so that it will be that much higher, I will use poly bushings where it will tie into the frame at the ends. This drawing i srough, but gives the basic Idea. I will then clearence the skid for drive shafts and extend the skid from spring perch to spring perch, on the top side, I will use .5x.5x1/8" angle to add some rigidty.

I am planning on doing this too. At this point it looks like I have about 3" above the tran. and and tranfer case before it hits the tub. If I go straight across with a skid it look like it will raise the tras. and transfer case up about 3". So hopfull with 1" motor mounts and 1" body lift it will not hit the tub.

Thats when clocking the tcase comes into play, as well, in my design I will be moving the poly mounts from under the tcase to the frame, so it should get me another two inches. There are a lot of what ifs in this equations and a lot of ways to go about it.
