Take a 79-83 CJ7 & put a VW Diesel in it. Freekin Golfs get 50mpg...with a heavier vehicle maybe it'll only get 30-35mpg. With gas prices increasing I keep asking myself how doable is this type of swap? I see lots o V8 conversions & so I'm asking the experts.......How likely is it to mate a VW golf/jetta Diesel into a CJ7?

call advanced adapters and tell them your story. if they dont laugh they can probly make a plate to fit an auto bellhouseing..its probly gona be hard to find a clutch to work with this..

Im looking for a hydrogen fuel cell swap
you laugh but its gonna be possible at some point
serioulsy though, people put VW 4's in jeeps all th etime, its agood swap, with the right gearing and tranny they are great power houses

A great diesel swap in for jeeps is to buy a old Frito-lays truck, and swap in the 4cyl diesel. Not computer controled, not a whole lot of HP but torque is amazing!

stay away from the computer controlled diesels, if its a mechanicel fuel injection just say screw it and save yourself even more money run it off home heating oil.
just a FYI though if your going to wheel it. sure diesels have some power down low but remember they only rev to about 2500 so they get to peak HP alot quicker than a petrol engine. and the wieght to HP ratio between the diesel and Gasoline engine is; to equal the HP of a 4 cyl gasoline engine with a diesel your looking at about twice the wieght. so in reality what your doing by swapping the D in is adding wight up front and decreasing maximum HP by alot. find yourself a turbo D and strap on a little more horsepower. My dad got a frito lay van and it has a 4 cylinder turbo desiel, runs mint and has good power. try findin one of thoseif it will fit. he got his for like $1500

i got an answer..... sell the geep, buy a .8L geo and laugh at everyone else.when you flying by them getting 40 miles to gallon or better ;D

The new Hybrid GMC is rumored to get something like 40mpg on the high way... The only thing that sucks is it only comes in a 6 ft bed/4dr configuration. I was a reg cab 8ft bed... darn
