My driver door (97 TJ) has a stuck lock. When the door is open, the lock works fine. When the door is shut, i need to kick the door on the bottom at the same time as I unlock it, and it sometimes opens. Anyone have something like this before? I fighure its a misalignment somewhere, just not sure where.

The actuator rod inside the door needs adjustment
or
On the end of the key cylinder, there is this super thin piece of metal the attaches to the actuator rod and then to the lock body, that piece of metal is held on with some cheesy clip, might be worn or bent. clip can fall off, but you said it works when open.
Most cost effective solution.... sledge hammer!

I usually go doorless- just recently had some circumstances where the top and doors are on, and locks are needed.
I'll tear it apart this week and see

i think its common, my driver side hasnt unlocked in 5 years.

Mine did that all the time but then I sprayed some silicone in there and everything now works. It seems to stick sometimes still but once I spray its all good.

I pulled the door skin off and everything works fine in there. I've found if I slam the door, It will align correctly. So, from now on, its door slammin!

Took a closer look---- one of the arms on the lock mechanism is broken-- Anyone ever change out the lock mechanism before?

The key cylinder, or the Bear claw lock body? very easy either way. C clip holds the Cylinder in, the Lock body should be 3 torx head bolts, when re-installing it, snug the bolts down enough thatwhen you close the door, the lock mechanism can slide up or down a little to allign the bear claw. then slowly open the door, make sure no binding, then tighten them sucka's down!

Thanks john.- I was curious if they were seperate peices- i didnt want to have different keys.
Its the lock mechanism- one arm just fell apart. Hopefully all works out.

This sux. the door unlocks, but i can't open it from the outside. Jeep wants liek 70 bux for the part, and neither jeeps unlimited or quadtec has it..... .

Junk yard? I bet your key will open other jeeps. My ford ranger key opens by buddys 5.O Mustang. Go figure.
