Hey guys , Newbie here , but not to jeeps just this site. I have a tired 2.5 and i went out and bought a ranger that had a 5.0 mustang motor in it.....it's got less than 30,000 miles on it and it runs sweet.....now guess what i'm gonna do? ya i'm crazy like that. I'm putting the bad larry in my jeep. And not on impulse I have studied and done my homework the best I could. Now my question is what else can i salvage off the ranger? I know it's got alot of good junk in it ie: front end , rear end , transfer case and tranny.......can i use any of that stuff to make the 5.0 conversion go more smoothly? and if someone tells me the rims and tires will fit I'll smack ya.....lol......and I already read the forumns at pirate4x4 . com and www.bc4x4.com/chrisw/....I would like to also know if theres an automatic tranny that would be easy to swap , better than shelling out a ton of money to Advance Adapters! Nice swap... you did not mention what year ranger though... cause a ranger never came with a 5.0 (unless you have the 74-79 f100 ranger and that still had a I6)
But I will assume that it is a 93 with a mustang drive train swapped in..
front suspension is no good, twin I beam sucks!
rear most likely a 8.8, good rear end, but the ones in the ranger are a little too narrow, unless your putting it in a CJ (will match narrow trac D20) but you said you have a 2.5 so I am guessing you have a YJ) Motor, good swap tranny, if you want a auto, the for AOD tranny is pretty cheap will bolt up, and will blow up (no typo) they are not the best tranny's You can get the newer ford autos (I can't recall the model#) random interior parts like seats can swap over as well!

The Mustang motor was swapped into the ranger by a friend of mine. Not a factory ranger motor! heh I had heard that the ranger rear end was about 3 inches shorter than the wranglers , and yes i own 2 yj's both 88's and both with the 2.5. I'm pretty confidend on doing the swap , I realy just wanted to be able to use an auto tranny but it looks like if i wanna go that way I'll have to go through Advanced adapters to use a tranny like a tourque flight 727 or something. It's too bad I couldn't use the tranny thats in there. Well , I don't know for a fact that I couldn't yet , but most likely it won't work......Nothings ever that easy. I know the ranger has pretty much the best of everything it possibly could of. When I find out the type of tranny / Transfer case I'll get back. I think the motor was out of an 89 gt , rebuilt with 30,000 on it. And she purrs like a kitten , and I'll be able to run her upside down with F.I. lol.......Thanks

c4 is a pretty strong auto tranny will bolt right to it not sure about the length and transfer case bolt up though youd have to check that.

Thanks for the info patriot.......I found the Advanced adaptors does make a fabrication to make the aod work. Some people have told me the Aod is weak , but the way i look at it is they put them in stangs that get the snot knocked outta them , they put them in 1/2 ton fords for years...anyone know the pros and cons of both these trannys? I know the AOD is geared 1st 2.40 2nd 1.47 3rd 1.00 4th 0.67 . Anyone know the gearing for the c6? and with either i know there will be some drive shaft work.....but thats okay , I have an IN at a machine/bearing shot......and owning a jeep that has become a big bonus. I know i need a new rear shaft anyways because I never replaced it after the SOA so I might as well strengthen the front to while I'm at it. Especialy since it will be running 250 horsepower and 300 trq. a little more than the 2.5...lol Keep the info and replies coming , I'm hella psyched I found a group like this in my area with some smart peeps!

I would avoid the AOD at all costs, not cause I hate fords but that they are weak tranny's and drag racing is a whole different type of stress on a auto tranny than off roading is!
ex.. you spend most of your time in 1st gear at a low rpm, which happens to be the weakest part of the aod... where in regular driving or even drag racing, your in 1st for a short time, then second.
If your gonna get adapters, a TH 350 are plenty, AA makes the adapter for both the motor and tcase and will last plenty. plus it has absolutly no computer crap to get in the way. (just no over drive)
If the tranny that is in the ranger works OK, use it till it blows up, then buy another one used, and beat that one up (what ever it is) would be cheaper in the long run!
