I agree with Todd on this one. Either rebuild it to stock specs where you know its going to be reliable or do something insane. Stock rebuild would probably be your best bet though.

I'm looking at a stock rebuild or stroked 4.0. I don't want to deal with motor mounts and trannies. Keep it simple John....

I would go simple , stroked seems to be a good Idea. I went the opposite route , I went with a 350 4 bolt main. I'm telling you , it's not easy. You have to change alot going to a v8. Things that you never thought about when ya did what I did. Like larger radiator , clearance issues and just plain and simply getting over your head. Everyone will tell ya man a v8 is a great way to go. And they will promise you there help. I was told the v8 swap would be easy and it would be done before summer. It's still sitting in my garage. Learn from my mistake and don't do it!
But on a better note I'm having it towed to my buddy's shop and throwing the v8 in , redoing the wiring , the trans. and hopefuly my jb conversions super short sye. I won't be out on the trail probably till the fall but it will be well worth the wait.

Ya I've been thinking about a V8 swap as well. Then i goto fill up my 4.2 ltr & I ask do i need extra HP for about the same or less fuel economy ? This is even my 2nd vehicle not my daily driver & w/todays gas prices I worry about fuel economy. I've been flirting with the thought of a diesel powered jeep. Heck Mitsubishi's been making 35mpg diesel powered Jeeps (under liscense) for years. 2cents
