I need some advice on lifting my 97 tj. I would like to run 35's but will I need a 6 inch lift to sling 35's without rubbing? Or could I run 35's with just a 4 inch lift without rubbing? I would rather have the 4 inch lift, the price is better. help please.

you could get a Rubicon Express 4.5 lift or an OldManEmu (OME) 4" lift and squeeze 35" tires but you probably need a 1" body lift. What kind of axles do you have? if youve got the Dana35 in the rear i would stick w/ 33" tires.

To run 35s you will need at least 5" lift, (so a 4" lift and 1" body lift might do the trick). If you have the standard d35 rear axle, you cannnot run 35s offroad. IF you have the d44, you should be ok, but you will need to regear front and rear, which is another $800+. In most cases with more than 4" lift, youll need a SYE and CV driveshaft, which is another $500+. Basically, if you want 35s youll need to spend a lot of money and your jeep will be lousy on road(but awesome off road . Take your stock jeep out and see what it can do, then decide if you really need those 35s. When I had 31s and a 2" budget boost, I had no problem keeping up.

for the best ride on road and offroad, go with the RE3.5" and a 1"bl then add alittle to the bumpstops and you will have low cog and an awesome rig. to help out id also get the RK tri-link upgrade...worth its money in gold but get the weld in cradle not the bolt on.
as for the comment that 35's suck on the road....i beg to differ. i love the way my jeep drives...minus all the stupid problems i have right now but thats a different story.

I definetly recommnend the RE 3.5", I have the same setup with a 1" body lift and it has tons of room, and rides pretty good. Keep in mind RE springs run larger than they actually say, I got a little more than 4" out of 3.5" springs. If you have the money to regear, slap on some 35s or else itll be lacking power badly. In 97 they had 3.07 and 3.55 gearing, i have 3.55 with 33s and i dont think i could deal with 35s on the highway.
