If you replace the Hub Bearings in a full floating front axle, do you need to replace the race for the inner bearing if it still looks good? Axle had OEM bearings (probably from 1980) and I replaced with Timken Bearings. Races are not scored, warped and the grease still looked good, not all liquid black and over heated.

i think it's generally regarded as one of those things where if you have it out, it makes sense to replace, since they don't really cost too much, but if they're good, than you really don't have to.

Races should be replaced when the bearing is. That doesn't mean you would have trouble. Is it difficult to remove? Bob

As the axle spins the bearing and race wear to fit eachother. This bieng said reusing it you could either have no problems, or toast a bearing. I reccomend replacing it.
Do you need help getting it out?

Thats why I asked, but it appears that the races were replaced, and the bearings look original. as in, the races were put in righ tbefore i pulled the axle out of the junk yard. at $5 a piece, Might as well.. Thanks Bobby, need no help, took them out about 6 months ago, actually been putting them back in. Since I got the Oil burner out of my garage, I have a bit more room to move around, SO I just sit in a chair on wheels and roll around working on the axles. Front Is almost done, one problem came up, one of the manual hubs fits like a glove, the other is gonna need some de-burring cause the inner hub won't slide in over the axle splines. The interfierence seams to be on the inner hub wall.
