Quick question... 99XJ with 8.25 chysler.... 27 or 29 spline?? who can help me? Also the reason i ask is because im thinking of getting a Power-Trax LockRight for the rear. Does anywon know anything about these or have any opinions on them? Any help would be awsome. Thanks

I am not sure about spline count but I would not waste money on a 8.25. They are only marginally stronger than 35c. Find a Dana 44 or 8.8 and build it once. Just my 2c Oh and I blew up 35c and 8.25 in my xj, now i have dana 44

yeah at some point down the road i will go for a D44, but until i afford that, i was thinking of getting a cheap locker.

I have heard that a locker only in the rear can make slippery trails even tougher. the rear will grip too much and the front end wont be able to keep up. Results, the rear end will want to come around the front.
I'm not an expert. I am just thinkin in thoery.

Yea But the slippin' and slidin' is half the fun? LOL The cost of a locker needs to be looked at form the view of broken axles. The lock-rites or "lunchbox" lockers are not expensive but axles are, after a while. And that is what is going to break next. If you are going to swap out the rear at some point then why not install the locker in the front d30.

the 99 8.25 is 29 splines and is only marginally weaker than a 44 with 30 splines...so lock either but if this is a dd then i would lock the front. i love my lock-rite up front. never had a prlem with it so far. not noticable on the street in 2wd except for the clicks. this winter should be interesting with the locker and 35's though. ;D

yeah, i think my next big investment is going to be the Super 30 kit, D44 strength with an ARB. Expencive but worth it! Iv heard nothing but good news about the Chysler 8.25, i know its not quite the D44 but its pretty damn close. And with 32's i should be fine.

'Dan, I know I talk to you all the time but I'll probably forget this....how about a ford 8.8 swap or dana 44 swap, the ford 8.8 out of an explorer is 31 spline, and a little stronger than the d44 so i hear, and its already set up for rear leaf....
I could be wrong..

the 8.8 is a great axle swap but it has its downfalls...1) yes it is leaf but they are in the wrong spot so you still have to remove them and get new ones. 2) its C-clip and they suck.

Also If you put in a 8.8, I would get a new Diff cover that re-enforces the carrier, They are prone to extreme amounts of flex, also, weld the axle tubes right to the carrier, 8.8's are only pressed and spot welded throught small holes, and also will cause the axle tubes to flex, which will break the axle!
