We've skimmed this topic before, but in all honesty- what is the general opinion of an out the door price on a chrystler V8 conversion on a TJ-- prolly with an 8.8 or D44.
Just tossing ideas around in my head

what engine? i know if you consider the hemi, youll have to do an auto trans, however there are 2 companies now(forget the name) that have an adaptor that will mate with a 6 speed camaro/vett tranny, t-56? you may be able to retain your np231, but im not sure with the manual tranny, you will also have to convert your fuel system to 2005, since OBDII status changed that year, otherwise the check engine light will come on and the ECU will throw codes....there is a writeup on this somewhere? rockcrawler.com?

a couple of years ago i got the v8 bug.i got an amc 390 with a 750, double pumper Edelblock performer intake crower 270 degree cam,2 1/2"dual exhaust w/ flowmasters. i never had so many problems with my jeep.i broke 6drive shafts(2 were custom made .25 thick wall) 3 yolks on the rear end 1 on the t case the 2 piece rear end lasted 4 days then switched to Moser 1 piece axles they lasted 2 months i lost track how many front 30 shafts i went through. iwas running 33"swampers open diffs and i babied it and was afraid to get on the gas. having said that it was awesome driving it when it wasn't broke. when i got the cj i have now i blew the engine and even though i had a 360 &a390 with everything i need to swap it in i choose to rebuild the 6 and inject it p.s. any one wanna buy a v8

I was reading a recent article about jeep motor swaps, the author had a old flat fender 2A and put a EFI 350 in it, as well as upgraded axles tranny, AtlasII so on and so on.. at the end of the article, he stated that the one thing he would have done different is NOT put in a big V8, at the time, he was contemplating swapping the 350 out for something more along the lines of a 4.3l.
Personally I am a believe in the statement that there is no replacement for displacement, especially on something that is street driven, but for a trail rig, on the trails we use, a V8 is a little over kill, if we were booging through mud pits the size of Rhode Island, then yes big horse power, but for the trails we use, not really needed. when Squeaky's 6cyl goes on to a better place, I will weigh my options of a rebuild/4.6 stroker and swapping in a mild vortec 4.3.
the 4.6 will give me lots of torque the 4.3 will give me lots of HP

my jeep has no problem on the street. but my 6 isn't stock howell fuel injection,crane cam.bored .30 over and 2 1/2 exhaust w/ flowmaster 4.56 gears w/36"tires im somewhere around 2400 rpm at 55 mph in 4th gear

if anyone has a 4.0L and wants to stroke it....i have cranks and rods. How much would you want for a good crank plus rods? I've got a few spare 4.0's i've considerd stroking once I get some time.

it's got a t18.the reason i went with the t18 was how easy and cheap it went in a cj. at176 bell housing bolts right up to a ford 2wd t18(which i already had). i found a company in Colorado called rhm enterprises they sent me the t18 rebuilt with the advanced adapter to go to my Dana 300,the clutch kit, pilot bushing, throw out bearing delivered to my door for under $1100. this combo is the same length as a t5,Dana 300 which was in my jeep so i didn't have to change drive shafts besides my jeep gets scary beyond 40 mph

my buddys considering dumping a build amc 360 in his wrangler, is it worth to get rid of the inline 6 in both your opinions?
