Anyone know if you will have trouble passing MA inspection with a fuel cell in the back of your jeep?

i am pretty sure that a fuel cell must be seperated by a "firewall"? in other words no direct contact with fuel in the cab. the emissions laws are what will get you, they check your gas cap now so if it isn't a stock gas cap i would think it would fail.
does that make sense? i hope so
of course most inspection guys probabally wouldn't notice it. espically if you can get by the gas cap thing?

I see an old CJ5 puttin around wakefield with a fuel cell, also old CJ5's had the tank under the seats, 80's jags had the gas tank behind the rear seat and there was no metal seperating it.
I wouldn't say a thing. Your gonna have to mickey rig a gas fill, the stock won't work so, I would just leave the stock gas cap where it is, they test it, it passes on to the next part, even if it fails, they just put a new one on for $3.00 and just slap it on.
One more note, old benz I think sl280's the small two door two seaters, the fuel cell was behind the seats and only covered with carpet.

good exceptions but they were all built by the factory in this manner.
my 1957 tank is under the seat, but again factory installed there.
i think the issue will be emissions. if they notice it.

If you slip the guy 20, you could pass with a dead body in your trunk.

Hardest part I can think of is coming up with a clean way to run the filler.

I believe it needs to be permanently affixed to the vehicle and mounted on the exterior.

leave ur gas cap in the stock location, and the filler neck....that way it looks stock and the gascap is still good...gotta find a way around the check engine light that comes on when you remove the gascap and start the engine since there will be nothing connected to that filler neck....someone I know does inspections....

i think the issue will be emissions. I don't see how it will effect emissons, assuming he re-uses the factory fuel pump, supply and return lines. it will have no effect on the emisson from the vehicle's motor. I would do it, and when you get inspected, simply put a blanket over it, and not say a word. If they ask you any questions, tell them it is our sub woofer box, tool box, dead wifes body in a card board box. Be creative.

I was going to resuse the stock lines and everything else. If you price it out its a bit more expensive then a gas tank skid but you get a ton more clearance. And also when I come up with the stupid idea of pushing my rear axle back and going bigger (wich is bound to happen sooner or later) I will have room for it back there
