the only difference i belive is the mounting holes on the frame. so i don't see why it wouldn't be possible. i have an 03 skid ill give you if you wanna try it.

Do a skid this way. It is cheep, easy and it gives you about 1-2" more clearance.

How are those bolt heads going to cause a problem in the future?

I have been thinking about that. My thoughs right now are, I need to replace my Trans. bushing soon anyway, so I will see how things go. I have been thinking about making a bolt on cap that goes over them. I would probably damage the cap but the bolts would be OK. I also have room to lift the trans more and set it up like a stock shid but every thing would still be flat.

yeah i was referring to the trans bolts, first rock will totally mess the head up so that you cant remove it with out cutting them, repeated beatings can eventually sheer them straight off...thats one of those dont ask me how i know statements
ive seen people build caps like your talking about rich, i think the guy from rocklizard fab has a little cap thing to protect the bolt heads
i still have the stock crossmember, when i bolted my skid to it, i used the carriage bolt style that have the round/flat head on them so that they are essientally flush with the skid
