i hate to do this to you guys after that long thread from lilrhodyxj about gearing but i need some help with this and i want to make this a simple as possible. Ok so i want to run a 4.5 rubicon express lift and 32 inch tires and as im finding out im going to have to regear if i want to keep most of my power. What gears will give me the most over all bottom end and top end , i dont want to change out my axles so with runing the 8.25rear and 30 front what gears should i be looking at for both. also i want to lock the rear end with the power trax no slip. hopefully we can get through this with no pain. ;D

my recomendation is you go back to other thread read--gear calculator----will tell you how to keep it close to stock. this will just be a re-peat thread.

there isnt some magic gear ratio that will give to great low end torque and still let you do 70 down the highway at 2k rpm, so dont waste you time trying to find id. Secondly dont waste your time with 32's, just get 33's you will want them anyways. Then you can run 4.56's in your 8.25 and call it done

32 or 33" tires and a 8.25 4.56:1 if it an auto. 4.11:1 if it is a 5 spd.

i read the other thread and read about how to keep it close to stock i even went to one of the sites that was post and did some calculations. the 4.11 would be as close to stock about 200 rpms over, compaired to the 3.73 which is 100 under stock. i have a auto i was thinking 4.11 why do you say 4.56 if its a auto. and as far as the 33s go i know at least not now i dont want them and not for a couple years i dont think i will be doing enough difficulate wheeling for them

dude, you WILL want bigger tires soon after you get bigger tires. Its the truth. If you dont believe us, at least start with 33's that way you will be able to reason with yourself for not getting the 32's. If your going to spend the money, spend it so that you can upgrade without re-gearing when you DO want bigger tires.

just like we said in the other thread....get the deepest gears (in your case 4.56) and buy 33" tires...please do not waste your time or money on 32's, you will be very upset, especially running a re4.5" lift
but what do we know, if you want to be stubborn about it, go do what you said and be upset when you wish you got the 33's (i have 33's and wish i had 35's, and if i had those, i would wish i had bigger tires, its never ending)

yeah i hear what you guys are saying every one i have talked has said that i will ever be happy and always want more. i already changed my mind from a 3inch to a 4.5inch this is my first jeep and my first lift kit and i dont think she is going to be made in to a hardcore wheeling rig yet. she does pretty good stock but after my last trip i decided that the plans for a kit are in motion and also money is alittle tight.

is there any special tools that i need when i put the gears into a chrysler 8.25 and a dana 30? have you done gear installs or even read about them? there are a number of "special" tools that are either required or make your life a hell of a lot better. Installing gears is not for the guy who is just installing his first lift kit and has never really wrenched before (i am not saying that is what you are, I dont know you, just something to think about)
