I must be reading this from another point of view, but it seems like the gear difference was a temporary thing,,,ya know like get to work after the 8.8 swap. it makes sense to me to swap the axle with the junk brackets for a geared correctly temporary axle, since its gonna snow..more soon..

Dan, none of us have seen that trail. I know people who wheel in 2wd til they get stuck. There is a chance he didn't have it in 4wd. Though it is still undecided, I'm sure the cause of the lca mount breaking is NOT from mismatching gears even IF it was in 4wd!!! How about you guys settle down and back off a little bit and let the kid answer before you all tear him apart?

sorry i didnt know i was hurting peoples feelings...ill try and watch that. I was just callin it like i saw it. And yes your front tires spining slower then your rear tires, even if only by a quarter of a turn per rotation, can put huge amounts of stress on the axle mounts when in low rear.

OK Kids, time for everyone to grow up and address the issue, rather than being childish, I too am guilty of it, so lets all move it along.
If I did a axle swap, IMHO I would not do it unless I had the front gears. BUT there really is no harm in driving around with mis matched gears asuming you do not use 4wd.
If purchasing a new axle for cheap cash that has gears already that match your rear gears, and will be easier to modify cause it is out of the vehicle, then go for it. If I recall though, you plan on running 36" tires, 3.55's won't cut it. you'll need to go to a Numerically higher gear, I would suggest minimal 4.88, if your running 33's now and plan to stay that size, I would suggest 4.56's so...
My suggestion that would be the most cost effective in all ways, repair the axle you currently have under your vehicle, that should be free-cheap (depending if you already have the metal stock) take the front drive shaft off your vehicle just in case you put it into 4wd, it won't create a larger issue... save some money, for $200-$400 you can get new front and rear gears, (I would definatly suggest the 4.88's) and for another $100-$200 get them installed then this will address all the issues, and get you where you should be for a very decent price.
Like everything though, it is your final call, do what you think will suit you best.

it wasnt easy alone, but its back up. i picked up a cheep HPd30 with 355s. all i have left to do is swop axle shafts and hubs becuase mine are in beter shape, throw the wheels on and tighted everything...test drive tomorow...
