I am looking for a High Def image of the connection between the draglink and the tie rod on any HD aftermarket steering setup. I'm going to make my own in 2 weeks, got everything figured out except the best way to do that, so I wanted to take a look at some of the stuff people already have.

I think I have the answer but no pictures. The D44 knuckles off of a 73-75 chevy 1/2 are direct bolt ons for D30's (I think) but these knuckles can be machined for flat top steering arms.. I will look for some pics or what ever.. I remember reading this somewhere for a D30 up grade.

OK I found this on ebay at cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7976382202&category=33563The only thing is, I can't remember if the new knuckles needed machining to the ball joints or were bolt in.. I remember reading it somewhere, but where my axles are D44, I didn't really pay attention to it. That particular picture would need to have the other knuckle's studs installed and a set of Hi-stear arms bolted up.. Then you can connect the Tie rod and drag link made of DOM tubing (like 1.25 od with threaded ends welded on and heim joints. I found a real good on-line source for heim joints, I think the web site was www.tabzone.com

I'm actually just looking for the way rustys joins their tie rod conversion (under the knuckle) draglink to the tie rod, it joins mid rod. thats the only joint I need to know about before I fab up my HD steering.

I looked at that too. seems like alot of work for a 30 when I will be doing it anyways when I build out a 60 eventually (I hope). But yeah I second the pic. I know one of you guys is running the rockrawler steering and there is a rusties HD set floatin around some place.

ok, i hope i can explain this? rustys' uses 1"dom, they weld a 1" square tube (approx. length 4 " long) at the right end, then weld another sort piece of 1" dom (the short end in approx. 2 " long) in the square section is the locaton of the tie-rod-end. hope this helps
and so you know, NO! i will not take a pic.

That makes perfect sense in my mind except 1 thing, You cant rotate the tierod for adjustment, you have to take out an end to adjust it? or am I mistaken in my imaginatory picture. The Square stock is welded inline with 2 pieces of the DOM to make a place for the TRE (on the draglink) to press onto the actual tie rod. It seems that this way you would have to remove the draglink from the tierod, or an end from the knuckle to adjust your tow in alignment?

I'm trying to decide on a design, i'm kinda leaning towards a bracker which you can loosen on the tierod so the rod spins free, then you tighten on again, ofcourse I would also have to weld disc's on the tie rod to stop the bracket sliding in the event the clamps were unable to hold the pressure, or something broke. either way it looks like i'm going to need some machieneing. No one on the board has a metal laithe do they?
thanks again todd.
