Caliper retaining bolts. The holes in my steering knuckle where the caliperbolts in have rusted to the point the threads fell out. Go figure. SO now I cant safely get the bolts to tighten. I cant drill+tap to a bigger size beacuse the bolt still needs to fit through the sleeve in the caliper. I tried putting a tac inside the hole and tapping it to no avail. Any auggestions besides buy a new steering knuckle?

Little more weld, and breaking a tap and I got one really solidly in there, and the other decent. Btw what is a heli-coil?

It looks like a "spring" of threads, you drill the hole larger ,then screw in the coil to restore it back to the original size. they are strong and easy. Bob

A parts store should have them.I used to get them from the machine shop i worked at, but i havn't bought any in a while. Bob

heli coils are good they are expensive for what they are but the good thing is the hreads are twice as sttrrobg as the original when its helicoiled. i wouldnt trust the weld holding as much as i would the heli coils though especially when your dealing with something thats going to be stopping you from hitting a bus full of nuns holding babys. just something to consider, they arent hard to use. ALSO check Mcmastercarr.comthey will have every helicoil you need. just remember with the heli coil you need the right size drill a special tap for the heli coil and the insert tool. so your better off getting a kit.

The Caliper bolts do not take any force when you apply the brake. The pads are slotted into the knucle to do that, the bolts just keep the caliper on track. I agree about the coils though, I will get some for sure
