now that my jeep is NEJ legal, i want to start to get the right spare parts incase somting happens on a trail. I have a 1990 XJ with a complete drive train. Things i can pull off of that are,
lower control arms (do i need 2 or will 1 do? upper control arms (is it a good idea to take thes as spares?) tie rod track bar steering linkage front DS
now im assuming that the front DS wil work becuase the 1990 and the 1995 both have AW4's with 231's and D30's. the rear DS, im not sure cause the 1990 has a D35 and the 1995 has an 8.25 but i can measure that. would the ujoints from the front axle work? also, i dont think that axle shafts will work because the front is a d30 vaccume disconnect. do i need spare shafts because i only have 235x75x16's, and my last time (and first) out i didnt really hammer the throttle, more just ease over things.
SO any other ideas about parts that i can strip from my parts XJ? thanks.

Yeah, keep the entire thing and stash it in the woods behind your house. Give it time . . . you will understand why! lower control arms (do i need 2 or will 1 do? upper control arms (is it a good idea to take thes as spares?) tie rod track bar steering linkage front DS you are correct sir!! pull the short side, and pop the ujoint out of the funky disco side and keep the stub shaft. They will come in handy eventually.

keep everything you can. the front u joints will work, i think the entire shaft will actually. as far as the driveshafts, they should work, because you have the np231 with a slip yoke, so i believe it will at least get you of a trail. if youre not keeping the whole vehicle, pull everything and scrap it, because someone, somewhere, may need it

8.25 and d35 are different length pinions, im not sure the driveshafts are interchangeable (8.25 has a longer pinion and shorter shaft i believe)
i would bother to carry control arms on the trail, i guess if you got them and have room why not, but i would bring steering things and driveshaft and axle shafts first

the 8.25 will not work with a d35 shaft.

The rule of thumb I've always used is when I upgrade something, I keep the old for spare just to get off the trail. That's not the case of everything, but for the most part, if it will still work after the upgrade to get me going, then I'm going to keep it.

I would keep as many parts as you can. As far as what you bring to the trail I would say: Axle shafts Drive shafts Tie rod**** saved my a** ;D Brake parts (doesn't hurt to have a coil of light guage break line too) and tools to change all of the parts, doesn't help much to bring them and you can't install em if you don't have tools
