my ignition lock broke and then my key broke off in it. got the new parts but i cant figure out how to get the dam thing out. i read the chiltons and that helped me like a broken knee on a runner. i just cant see how to remove it or any screw to get at. can anyone help? i tried searchin for write ups but all i found was links to buy a chilton manuel

It will need to be taken apart. You need to take the column out of the jeep. atleast on my CJ I did.

yeah i got the steering wheellock off with my buddies tool and got the tumbler changed...but i though that the reason my tumlber broke was cuzzed it was messed up. new tumbler has same problem as my old one, it just doesnt want to go to the start position. is this something that i dont wanna get into?

another option would be to use a series os switched and a push button start, never worry abut a key again, the only thing is you need to remove the steering wheel lock in the column so you can steer with out a key in the ignition.

yeah rocket was tellin me about doin that. i'd love the idea but i really dontknow much about ignitions/wireling to do that i heard the part that the tumbler connects to tends to wear out/ make a bad connection. Know anythin about this?

on the top side of the column there is a small metal rod that goes from the ignition key switch to a switch mounted lower on the column.this switch is where a bundle of wires plug in.i'd look to make sure that something isn't binding that rod up and that the lower switch isn't whats causing your problem.just a thought. jeremy

ok to get to it do i have to take the wheel apart again? (btw thats exactly what i heard could be wrong) i think that cud be it

you don't have to take the wheel apart to get to the lower section of it.you may have to remove the 2 column bolts and lower the column so you can see the lower switch and rod.on my yj its on the top left looking from the drivers seat.hope this helps. jeremy
