Ever get a bad feelin about a motor? I changed the exhaust maifold gasket after it burned, and its still popping a bit. I assume a valve job wouldn't hurt, and all the possibilities of a 130k + engine are coming into the light. I wonder if I should just roll over a swap the motor now..... maybe its just sunday night and I'm tired of turning rusty head bolts.

You should look into the Hemi conversion kit......I think that would be AWESOME!!

since exhaust manifold gaskets and hemi swaps are about the same price, you should get the hemi conversion kit....hell everytime i have to change my oil I just say fawk it and replace the motor!

Hell if you're goin to get a hemi might as well get the viper motor to put in it, you could probably get one of those used for the price you pay for a new hemi.

The Viper motor is a direct bolt on right?

I would go the cheap route! Buy a POS car to use for about a month, Pull the motor yourself, take it to a shop to re-built, rebuild it to stock specs, drop the motor back in and be done with it for another 130K, then sell the POS car! most 4.0l should get over 130K miles, but if you plan on keeping it, I would simply re-build it.

I have made a decision- I have sourced an XJ 4.0 head with valve train intact, less then 10k mi. I'm gonna do a head swap. While its off, I'm gonna do a waterpump and thermo.
Its gonna be a task, but I'll be happy in the long run.
on a side note: air is not blowing cold. refirgerant is full and the compressor is working fine. Bad condenser?

I'd love the help john, but unfourtunatley, I'm stuck in canada while I do this work. I wish I could bring it back to boston to work, but its just not going to work.
I'm sure I'll have more probs this fall that we can wrench on though:).

K- just got the skinny on this head. Its from a 2000 XJ H.O. Am I going to have any probs swapping it into my 97 TJ? Logic says no, but you never know when it comes to jeep.
