Of course my YJ has the vacuum actuator for the 4WD...and of course it has its problems. I was considering eliminating it and switching to Posi-Lok (retail, not the homemade version). Any thoughts? Is it worth the $200 so? How simple is it to install?

IS it worth it, Hell ya! My CAD died out during the blizzard we had this year, Tony and I threw one into my 94, took about a hour or so, it is not easy, but not hard, just tedious. Pros: No you can have 2 wheel Lo (great for the easy trails) A lot more durable, and when the vehicle is turned off (like in a stall situation) it stays engaged (CAD doesn't)
Cons: The knob is a little unsightly. When I was in a really off camber situation (like on the drivers side) cause of the axle flex, the Posi disengaged itself. I did some re-adjustment, and hasn't happened since Does not Slide right into 4wd all the time, have to rock the jeep sometimes to engage it/disengage

john didn't you get yours from collins brothers for like $150? I need to do that, mine takes like 2 mins to kick in.

Exactly where I got mine, I can't recall if it was $150 but I did get it a little cheaper than normal

get a full langh axle and put a block off plate over the hole

if u get a long axle to block it off then you have to get an axle seal for something like a d44, i cant remember what but its out there

Get a posi lock and weld the front spiders I've seen people run that so they can still run on the road.

then you have to get an axle seal for something like a d44, i cant remember what but its out there not true.. the non-disco D30 has seals right in the center section.. and the disco actually has one on the "short" side.. get the seal for the short side.. and install it in the outer tube OUT-BOARD of the disconnect.. where the larger seal is installed.. the disconnect needs lube so they put it waaaay out there and dont machine the axle tube in the center section on that side.. removal of the old seal is pretty easy but you need a long punch to knock it out... installation of the new one is a real PIA.. get a long section of threaded rod and proper sized THICK washers and a big socket and "pull" the new seal into place with the rod thru the axle tube... buy at least 2 seals, you will screw up the first one.. after swapping in a one-peice shaft i se why i have never heard of a disco shaft breaking, its Fing huge! but i'd expect problems with the collar at least.. if you chose to go with a posi-lock i suggest replacing the shift fork wih a "cast iron" part instaed of the stock aluminum fork.. unless the posi-lock comes with a fork.. if thats the case i'll STFU now..
