I just finished my $15 Onboard Air setup. It was done using crap laying around the garage. Used my Sanden 709T compressor (7 piston 9 CI). I took the pressure switch from an old air compressor and fitted it to the output side of the pump. 12v Into the switch, 12v out to the compressor clutch. Some Ts and Ys later I have 2 quick connect fittings, a pressure gauge (from an old compression tester), a length of hose to run to my removable air tank. It runs airtools, fills tires, blows. Fills the 5gal tank in about 60 sec. 100psi With the tank on I filled my 33x12.50 from 10psi to 35 in about 45 sec.
All I need to do now is wait for the inline oiler and F/S to arrive then mabey some more outlets, ie front & rear hookup.
Not bad for 15 bucks
On the other hand the bearings on 1st & 2nd in my AX-15 are shot and I can barely drive it.

Its removable, only really need it to run air tools so it sits in the back next to my tool box.

I got OBA for christmas, the air tank will be here tomorrow. I am mounting it under my hood. Its only the 2.5 gal. I am also running lines to the front and hopefully the back also with the quick connections.

mounting the tank under the hood is a bad idea....the air can heat up to the point where it will blow the tank....id mount it under teh jeep.

Ive seen a smaller tank mabey a 2.5 mounted behind the tcase under the skid plate, but im not sure how big it was.

ive seen air tanks mounted on the backs of some Jeeps. on the cargo racks. ;D but that guy was a nut! ;D

what about the 12v compressor from Kilby? they are more expensive but seem like they are easier to install. plus if one breaks it'll be alot easier to get it out. if the belt driven one breaks, how do you drive your jeep with out it?

keep a spare belt? its a stock pump so its nothing out of the ordinary, doesnt draw much more power, and if the pump siezes its on a clutch anyways, although if it seizes and burns off the belt it could suck

yea, but if the unit has to be removed it would be a B@#*h to get replaced. its not like an alternator or A/C compressor that is readily available at dealers or Napa. Or are they? They seem like pretty reliable units tho. But if it had to be replaced the Jeep is no go w/o the replacement.

BUT,,, The Sanden 709T is a readily available stocked unit, for it is the stock AC compressor If it were to break then a junkyard $10 bolt-in would work mint
