I noticed the only way to take off the front d/s is to remove the 4 bolts on the transfer case side once you remove the front (which is so much easier than the rear part of it). I got a 2000 TJ. is there any easy way to remove the d/s other than removign those bolts, they are a definate pain? Also, you can drive with the front d/s removed right? I know you can do it with the rear one, but just want to make sure. Thanks for the help!

ummm. easy way to get out the front driveshaft is to remove the rear driveshaft cuz its easy then do a 6000 rpm neutral drop and the front will pop right out.

just take the 4 bolts off, you just have to keep rotating the d/s so you can get to all of them.

sometimes the U-joints will seize in the yoke so spray a little wd40 on the joint. wait about ten minutes and then take a flat head screw driver and try to wiggke out the joint, should pop right out so watch your mellon. when you re-install the new joint or old joint, put a little white litheum grease on teh joint (little is all thats needed) this is a high temp lube and will keep the joint for seizing up again as well as prolonging the life a little!
Also, do no over tighten the bolts, there are torque specs for those bolts, use them. if you over tighten, the needle bearings will seize, the joint arm will over heat and snap and you'll have a driveshaft hanging low!

You would have to consult a manual. all vehicle are different, and I got a old YJ. I would say they would be about 20 ft/lbs.. or snugged down nice, then turn back about a 1/4 turn, but again.... look at a manual.
