I unbollted everything, pulled the axle shafts, removed the bearing caps holding the carrier, and i coudnt get the carrier to budge. I tried using a prybar and a hammer with no luck. Has anyone else had this problem with a lunchbox locker and a d30?

yah dude, it took some persuasion with a rubber mallet and some wood to get my carrier out......then i broke an axle and thought I had to do it again but I just hit the center pin with a hammer past the gears

what we did was, take a good pry bar and place it on one of the ring gear bolts and pryed against the diff housing/axle tube. as it worked its way out we put a rubber mallet behind the pry bar. its tough but it will eventually come out. leverage is the key.

Take two pry bars, one above and below the carrier and lean each against the housing.
Put some muscle into it.
I was regearing at the same time and brought the axles into the basement on jack stands so it may have been easier. I'd be worried about dropping the assembly.

I hope you have already gotten it out...but if not here is a tip.
Forget about trying to pry it out, use brains over muscle. Take a socket the size that fits the ring gear bolts. Put it on one of those bolts at the top of the carrier. Now reach around to the front of the pumpkin and rotate the yoke and the carrier will "pop" right out into your waiting hands! As you rotate the yoke the socket will hit the housing and push itself out of the housing.
Now, depending on your ratio you may need to remove the ring gear from the carrier to get the lock rite in the carrier. Dont worry, just replace the bolts and tighten id a cris cross pattern and torque to spec in stages. You will not hurt the set-up in the least.

I definatly had to take the ring gear off to get the drive pin out on my cherokee with 3.55's.

tip for putting the ring gear back onto carier if it seems like too tight of a fit, instead of pulling it on with the bolts, put it in pan of hot water and it will slide right over the carrier hub.

or an oven works too ;D Just make aure you use lock tight on the ring gear bolts, and clean out all the thread holes.
