what is a good ratio to run with 36" tires? so far i will have 103/1 if i run 4:10s in my axles i want to be able to street it and use the .73 overdrive gear on highway.
am i going to have a problem going 80 down the highway with 4:56 and .73 overdrive? i'm really leaning toward 4:10s But i want a real good crawl ratio but a decent high range for mud with that 6.34 first gear. whats everyones thoughts?

You can run all your numbers in this www.4lo.com/calc/gearratio.htm and it will tell you exactly what your rpm's will be in different gears at different speeds.

Couple things to consider.. You want to choose a gear ratio in your axles that when on the highway you cruise at 70mph at about 2200-2500 rpms. I would try to get most of your gear reduction in the Tcase, like a 4.1 lo or even something lower (numerically higher) or a doubler.
Another thing to consider and would not be best for a short wheel base vehicle with a nv4500 and a Chevy 350 in it would be to add a under drive (Klune V) for you crawl ratio or a over drive for highway use.

i have a t18(6.32) 1st gear dana300 (2.63) and 4.56 gears im at 78to1 my jeep really crawlers. i am going to stay away from steeper t-case gears because i want the option of wheel speed when i need it. i have been crawling and have actually seen my tires stop when i hit a ledge or big rock for what seems like a second or two then it keeps creeping. i know you have a 350 Chevy what cam do you have? i have a 268 duration cam in my 4.2 which is consided a torque cam. my jeep has no problem lugging down to 200 rpm. you can practly hear each cylinder fireing(pretty cool). i was wheeling with a guy that had a similar set up as jeepgods and he couldn't believe how my jeep crawles. with a 350 and overdrive you should have no problem on the highway even if you had 3.55 gears. i had a cj with a 390 amc 33" tires and 2:71 gears and that thing would just keep pulling like crazy on the highway. it would be happier with 4.10's though

ye that 4low site is good i figure i'll run 4.10 gears in the axles because then i got good crawl and most my gearing is in first gear and tcase is 4 to 1 low i thought about 456 but i think i'll be happier with 410s

On the street I think you will be happier with 4.56 or 4.88 leaning towards 4.88
I've got a .75 overdrive 4.88's and 33" tires and its perfect for highway in my opinion.

with a built small block, id run 4.11, how much power are you planning on running? id say a small wheelbase vehicle with 250hp/350lb tq, flies with 4.11, however i believe you are building bigger than this, so if you want to go really crazy, roll 4.56, i would not run 4.88 for the sake of rediculous power and terrible milage

you should do 4.88! how many people do you know regear and then turn around ans say they wish it was lower? i know ALOT of those guys!

i'm more worried about it being to slow on the street, i drive it to the canadian border in ME every year and put alot of highway on it......with 6.32 first gear and 4:1 low in the t case i think 488 will be too much, plus if i end up running a 44 front that'll put my pinion at more of a risk of breaking.unless i go 60 maybe 4.57 would be ok. fu@k i should just do 4.88s and if its too much use it as an excuse to go bigger in tire diameter.

Stock shafts will snap like toothpics before your ring and pinion would break I would think.
the shafts that came stock in my 44 look pretty beat. When you're dealing with something thats got 30 years of rust on them they look pretty weak.
