1995 K1500. The ujoint at the t-case is toast, but there are no bolts, or straps at this end. If I undo the straps at the pinion will the yoke at the t-case just slide out?
I want to pull the rear DS and drive in FWD for a couple of days. Is this OK?

Yup beware though, you will probably loose a lot of ATF out the end of the slip yoke. Chevy still used the barrel type bearings in it's T'cases till 97 (some late 96) on the main out put shaft. Keep an eye on the level.

Yes you can take the pinion end off and pull the DS+ yoke out
No you may not drive in FWD as your tcase fluid will drain out the hole the yoke goes in and cook the thing.

i lost my rear driveshaft at a trail when my pinion shims cracked and fell out. my new process t/c has a slip yoke as well, and after sealing it up with some latex gloves, zip ties and duct tape, i drove it from northampton ma to groton ma. if you seal it up real good, you can drive on the front axle. handles really differently though, so if you do, be careful and still keep an eye on your fluid.
not sure if i would recommend it, but it can be done.

i think there is a difference between a trail fix and doing this on a truck that will be driven around on the street for a week

not sure if i would recommend it, but it can be done. the drive was nearly 100 miles. then to work in littleton and home the next day, back to work and out to see lou for new shims. totqal must have been 150 miles, and i only lost a few drops, maybe a half ounce of atf. but again, see quote.

also depends, TJ's will not leak, YJ's and 84-95 xj's will. it is the type of bearing on the main shaft that is the difference. TJ's (98 and after) do not use a roller bearing, rather a collar that rides in a race so it seals about 200 times better than teh roller bearings found in the older NP 231's. when you install a SYE, the Advanced Adapters kit switches the YJ bearing style to the newer one found in teh TJ's.

im just saying i would not trust my transfer case to some latex gloves and duct tape, but i dont have to cause i have an sye so its a non issue

Thanks guys. Bought the ujoint at CAP on the way home. Pulled the shaft, popped the old joint out, and went to put the new one in and................yup, damn kid sold me the wrong one. Quick run to Autozone (with the old caps as reference). and back in business. Test ride and all is good. No need to run without the shaft, just wanted to know if I had the option.

i f'ing hate autozone, they dont know anything, and seem to be good for cheap ricer stick ons and cleaning products. napa and cap are good, i love carquest.
