Rubicon Express is good because you can buy just the stuff you want. they probably will sell you the 3.5" lift and sub in the JKS control arms. I would add the tri link rear later if you think you need it. prolly will be other brands and improvements on it if you wait a while.

I too was looking at the RK 5.5 long arm. anyone have any opinions on that particular lift?

My lift was installed in '00. So there werent that many options out there. Its basic. 4" coil lift, extended crappy sway bars, tranfer case drop, adjustable track bar. So 60,000 miles later its in need of some updating. After lockers and regearing I think i will switch out the control arms for long arms and then replace the springs with airbags.
i imagine if i had airbags i would just ride around with em at full height but only use it on rocks and stuff if i thought i would need it.

from everything I have read on the RK lifts from people who have them, they love them. the people running them don't seem to have any problems with the short uppers and long lowers. i think this is mostly because the RK kit doesn't use true long arms, they are what is known as medium length arms. better than short but not as good as long arms. but i like the kit because: 1) there is no exhaust mods 2) you pick what t-case skid you want to run 3) the arms don't hang down as low as RE or FT and are less likely to get hung up on rocks.
im debating now between the RK and the RE kit mostly because I cannot decide if I want to go to the AirRock set up or not.

Exactly what are the long arms made of, and can you buy just the control arms? Is it simply DOM tubing with a hiem joint threaded in at the end?
I will need 4 long arms for the 89 so I am sorta shopoing around! Trying to figure out if it is better to make them or buy them, considering the cheapest Johnny Joints I can find are $25 each and I will need 8...

the RK arms are solid stock with hiems that screw into one end and rubber bushings i believe on the others. im not positive if you can buy just the arms, but i don't see why. i know you can get the the LA upgrade kit with 4 lowers, 1 front upper, and tri-link for $900ish. the bracket that goes on the frame is just a 1/4" plate with the 2 mounts on them and it gets stitch welded front and rear and the t-case bolts hold the center section.

Well, I finally made up my mind. Rockkrawler 4" Severe Duty LA. Ordered today. Should have it mid next week. Now to decide on a new rear bumper and tires
