In prepping for inspection I needed to replace my exhaust. I went to the local autozone and grabbed everything from the cat back, all OEM When I went to install it, I found that the pipe comeing from the manifold to the exhaust was Alot smaller than the stock pipe, which was 2.5 dia. When i measured the manifold to cat pipe with calipers it read 2.2 on the slide, which looked to be about 2.25dia. Is this the correct stock size pipe? Im lead to believe that its not because I went back to autozone and double checked that they gave me the correct items for my year/model and everything else is 2.5" pipe. Unfortunitly they are closed today so im unable to check on that downpipe right now. Looking at the pipe connecting to the manifold it looks to mate up ok, but you can see about 1/4 of the threads that bolt it on. It dosnt seem loose or have any leaks that I can tell, but the existing exhaust is pretty leaky so its hard for me to tell. Basically I was wondering if that is the corrent set up and you need to use some sort of reduce/increase coupling to mate it to the cat.. just dosnt make sense to have a 2.25 comeing from the manifold then increaseing it to 2.50.. Just get a tapered piece of tubing and put it up there and secure it.. Mine does that too, it increase in diameter because of the drastic bends over the rear axle. to keep the same amount of CFM that flow from the manifiold-collector-cat, the pipe must be increased for cat-muffler-tail pipe.
