How do you get the harmonic balancer off? Do I need a pickle fork or should it just slide off with no resistance?

Do not spread the caps! Center it, that is assuming it is the correct joint. Maybe a tj guy can be of more help. Good luck! Bob

The holes in the yoke off the pinion should have little tabs sticking out on the outer edge. The outside (flatside) of the caps should fit almost but not quite snug against these tabs. The flat surface of the caps will end up being ~ 1/16" in from the outermost edge of the yoke. When the straps attached to the pinion yoke with the 4 small hex bolts is tight (35-40 ft*lbs) There should be no play at all between the caps and the yoke, but the bearings in the cap should rotate freely. If this is not the case then you have the wrong ujoint at the pinion end. Meaning you need to swap the ujoint, or return and exchange theTW driveshaft depending on which is easier for you.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't sure how to centre the u joint on the yoke. The 1/16 gap is what I thought, but I wasn't 100% sure that I had the correct yoke. So eye balling and centering it is going to be how it's done.

SOunds like you have the wrong U-joint. you should have little to no play in a u-joint. even with straps, too much slope and that drive shaft is gonna come off quicker than the cloths on a drunk college chic.
The u-joint should sit very snuggly inside the yoke ears.

yeah what john said, you shouldnt have to "eyeball" centering the ujoint, it should fit in snugly on both sides

You need a 3 jaw puller. Buy or rent from autozone. You should also replace the seal at the tcase output shaft
