well i just bought a tj that needs alot of help. and thats where you guys come in. ;D i have to pick it up saturday, so anybody with a truck and trailer who can help for gas and lunch let me know. so far i know it needs a power steering high pressure hose. drivers door wont unlock. hood is dented on top. drivers fender is dented. exhaust leak ( maybe manifold). no turn signals ( hopefully a flasher). airbag light is on . and the main thing: she idles perfect she goes into drive and reverse without fine (4cyl auto). however when i do put it in gear it stalls i have to rev it up alot to get it to not stall. then when driving everyttime i come to a stop it stalls. and when hitting the gas its fine for a few seconds then its shakes for a couple and keeps repeating. but like i said at idle it purrs like a kitten and theres no problem going into gear. but it keeps stalling. ? any ideas

there was a TSB a while back about the fuel pump and regulator (for 97s I know at least). Might want to run the VIN and see if it was adressed.
Fuel is my first thought, since it idles ok. Other option is the exhaust leak is just bad enough to create some wicked backpressure under acceleration. I'd be interested to see said jeep.

Call a dealer with the vin # I would guess.
And for the drivers door not unlocking, sounds wierd but, put the key in, turn it over to the "unlock" position, and bang on the door by the key wwith your fist while holding the key over in to "unlock" at the same time. It should open. Some tj's have this problem.

wouldn't an exhaust leak cause lack of bacl pressure?

yeah, so its got enough to idle, but loses it when ya accelerate... punching it gives ya just enough.

i called 3 dealerships and they all said the stalling is 99% chance the torque converter.

well, it's in my backyard now. ;D turn signals fixed. airbag light fixed. door lock fixed. power steering high pressure line on order get it thursday. so now i'm just down to the exhaust leak. and the possible torque converter. plus it needs a new soft top. cause the one thats on it is seriously screwed. ;D

when i fix the mechanical stuff first. then i get up some more money to get another top. you can have the old one. but i dont know what the timeframe will be. money constraints . but when i get some money after i fix the other issues and you still want it. its yours. but it may be awhile.
