well this morning i get a call from my wife that the zj made a big bang and she couldn't move afterwards. so i was thinking drive shaft or axle. so i leave work to go get it and her. when i get their i climb under it and find both of my re superflex lca's dangling in half. the threads ripped out. i'm screwed. had to have it towed home. i don't understand how this could happen. ive never even heard of this happening to anyone before. its not like i had them fully extended to where there was just a little thred in the arms. it was the exact opposite there was at least 3" of thread in the arms. i was actually going to put a tc drop in and extend them more to pull the diff back more. but now i'm screwed. anyone ever heard of this before? heck, this jeep has only been wheeled a few times and not since last year. and i'm a baby so i don't wheel hard as some of you know these control arms don't even have any rash or scratches on them never the less dents.

that sux, I would contact RE and b**** and complain till they send you a new LCA for free.
Be a Pain in their side till they colapse and just give you a new arm

im going to try. and oh. i failed to mention its both my rear lower arms. not just one. i talked to performance offroad center (where i bought the kit from) and he gave me a number to call for re. but he thinks they won't do anything because the arms a almost 3 years old. but i look at it like its a defective part. not wear or abuse. so i'll try anyway. if it dont work then i'll have to put them back together and weld the nut to the threads. and they just wont be adjustable any more. but should do the trick

well, peter smith at rubicon express pretty much told me to piss off, and said it was a maintenance failure and not a factory defect. he said it is more common than you'd think. he said it was due to the set nut was loose cause undue vibration and stress to the threads which lead to rust and failure. so my reply was teraflex don't even have a jam nut and they don't have that problem. so you just lost my business from now on and i hung up. . so now I'm just going to reattach the control arms and set the nut where i need it to be and weld the jam nut to the housing. I'll lose the adjustability but it will work. . when i pull them out to fix them this weekend I'll take better pics if i can remember.

That fix will fail in the same way the original arm failed. If you weld the nut on, and got another nut to jam against it that would be the ideal cheap solution.

the jam nuts were probly loose. and over time the lil movement there was wore down the threads

where would i get another jam nut that big? i was going to weld the jam nut to the housing and to the thread on the opposing side. how about that? because that would be a hard size nut to find, no?
