i was looking at a similar OBW system but you had to run another alternator bracket, then core out the alternator and hook direct to the inside, this way the alternator cant crap out on you when you need it. the only problem id see with going this route would be the damn serpentine belt. youd need to get one made or find a similar length. or youd need to fab a bracket and weld a pulley on top of another and size up a belt for it. i hear its a little different using the obw compared to arc welding. its a different arc and its a little harder to control its supposed to be kinda sloppy. if you practice long enuf you can weld pretty well tho.

if you only run one alternator I dont see this being a problem.

yeah but they want you to run a ford alternator. i dunno how id do this with the serpentine belt and stock bracket. if i had to fab something to hold it on i might as well just pop another alternator in there. i wouldnt know where to start swapping out the gm for a ford. wouldnt you need to swap the pulleys and fab brackets?

or you could get an alternator that the ready welders run with. Should be a direct bolt in or close to it. The mean green i think it is. Honestly, i just thought it was a cool idea so i posed it up . . . didnt really care about it too much.

OBW is one of my projects as well. I was gonna go the HEI one wire GM alternator route though

Nice, I saw a post over at some Mustang forum with people building their own arc welders from alternators for actual garage work. I saw some of the beads that they welded and it looks fairly well for a $70 welder.
