My jeep (TJ) at 55mph is shaking the poo poo outta everything, more than an unbalanced tire. Its pretty much a scary ride.
It happened to me at 70mph after hitting a pot hole, it was over quickly. Reminded me of bump steer, then really wobbly.
I have to fix this. Any suggestions...
It also seems that it has temporarily stopped at 55, but feels loose after 50ish.

id agree with john that the alignment is prob messed up, you might have also knocked a weight of a wheel, making it even worse

Steering dampeners, for the million and half time, are never the cause of wobble, they only mask problems you may already have with wobble
Check aligmnet, check TRACK BAR most of all!, and check all tie-rod ends

And when all else fails, Lift it. That fixed my wobble problems when mine was stock.

I took a look at it today, and kept all your suggestions in mind.
when I wiggle the tire right to left.. I noticed that the shock thingy between the wheels is really loose. So I suspect that it needs tightening, even though I have the right box wrenches and WD40 for the job, I cant get them to break.. So I am going to order a new shock thingy and get a compact or torch on the exsisting one. Not sure how long it has been loose, and not sure that I can trust the existing shock thingy anymore cause I dont know what kind of wear and tear it being that loose can cause.

it is pressed onto the drag link. it is a slightly tapered bolt. Once you get your nuts off (hehehe) you could do one of two things.. 1. the improper way would be to beat the heck out of it till it pops off 2. or use a air hammer with a punch to get it off, if you do not have a air hammer, go to Crapo-zone and rent a tie rod seperator and use that to pop it off.

try this....leave the jeep on the ground and with the engine off have a buddy wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you watch both ends of the TRACKBAR.its already been stated in this post and i'll say it again.....the SHOCK THINGY will not cause a wobble.if anything all it will do is help dampen the impact of the wobble.thats why its called a steering dampener.if you have a wobble find the problem...don't just try to cover it up with a steering dampner.if a trackbar end or tie rod end lets go in a coil sprung rig at 55 coming off an exit ramp its gonna hurt.if your unsure about the problem take it to a reputable alignment shop and let them find it for you.

the nut and bolt that holds the shock thingy by the right front tire (if your sitting in the drivers seat) spins freely, alowing the shock thingy to wiggle ALOT, and i can not tighten it anymore, nor loosen it. So I dont think its helping do anything. Do you think this could be my problem? I checked the old: lift and push up and down on the each tire while the front end sat on jackstands. I also tried twisting, pulling, pushing and basic manhandling of all stering rod-ish things and components. Everything seems A-OK.
So basically I think my shock thingy is Fuxed.
And John, that sounds like a lot of work. I think id rather cut it off, and buy a hardened bolt and a lock washer / nut combo and replace it.
