To haul my jeep
I am not a gazillionair, so reasonable $$ would be better.
Looking for dual axle's, and brakes. the rest I could care less about.

exactly... unfortunalty, cheaper to buy a fixer-uper- and fixer-uper it.
I priced it out to build one, still cheaper and less hassel to buy something with minimal issues for $700 than to build one.

no I never thought of that Bob. I will look into that.
exactly what I am looking for, uncovered, nothing super long. I would like for it to have electric brakes. I would like to keep the cost under $500 if possible. (wishful thinking)

Maybe a 16' dual axle with brakes. If you see one that looks bad, they may be happy to get rid of it. Of course you will have some crap to get rid of when you gut it. Bob

trailer or camper?
for the amount of work I am gonna put into a camper, free is the price I want to pay... again, wishful thinking, but If I am stubborn enough, perhaps something will come my way.

most campers weigh well under 5000 pounds.not sure if you've checked any out but the camper frames i looked at were cheesy, thin metal.once you gut it(and its gonna be a huge mess when you do),your gonna have to brace the shiat out of the main rails and cross supports before you can even start buildig it into a car trailer.then......after you've beefed up the frame it's still only gonna have (2) 2500 pound axles under it.thats 5000 pounds of load rating. subtract the weight of the beefed up,decked, finished trailer(1000-1500 pounds?) from that 5000 pounds and it doesn't leave you much of a weight carrying capacity. it can be done but by the time you purchase a camper, buy a bunch of steel(priced full sticks lately?),grinding wheels, welding wire, gas, etc(remember your talking about 16-20 foot long on each side,7-8 feet wide),lights, tires, rebuilding the brakes, decking material, ramps, then factor in the labor and clean up of gutting it,plus the hours and hours of weld time, seems like even if you get the camper for free your gonna have a significant amount of cash, and tons of labor into building a trailer that will be pushing its maximum ability(if not exceeding it) everytime you pull your jeep up on it.just my .02

What are you going to pull it with? My dad was able to pick up a tri-axle with electric brakes from a pavement company for $300. Just had to straighten out 1 axle. But that trailer is for his dump truck. Don't know on the size your looking for. If u drive by a construction/paving company and u see a beat up trailer just ask, ya never know if they were just debating on junking it or not... they got plenty of money for new equipment.

today i was in wrentham, and saw a trailer on the way there. i took 495 to exit 15, and went north on route 1-A, just through the center you go over route 140, and right on the left was a trailer for $600. probably could talk the guy down to $400 or at least $500. i think it was a dual axle, and would guess it to have brakes, it did look a bit old, and the pressure treated wood on it would probably need replacing...anybody live near there, maybe get more info?? anyway i saw it and remembered that somebody here was looking for one.
