What they said^^ Basically it makes alot more sense to go out and wheel, get experience doing that with the rig you have, and then modifie accourdingly This will also help you gain respect in the 4wd comunity To put it bluntly, a guy who wheels what hes got and learns how to drive it really well off road will command 10x more respect then somebody who builds a sick 4-linked rig but has never run a real trail in his life

also, if you cant even find time to do a little bit of wheeling, good luck trying to build a rig and wheel....it eats up so much time

it sounds like you have absolutely no idea what you want to do, and change your mind everytime you see something new and cool on the intraweb...yeah you can plan out the sickest rig from crap you see online, and then you realize it would take forever and cost mucho $$$$, do your own reality checks as far as changing my mind about axles i had wanted to swap in an 8.8 when i finished my lift. i was on the phone calling around for prices on them the same week i was putting the lift in. i was actually planning on doing the swap that same week. i just ran out of cash flow. i know at some point i want to switch axles im just not sure which ones right now..i may put in the 8.8 or whatever axle i choose and gear and lock the front and rear. throw on some 35s or 36s and call it a day and never change a thing. as far as what i want to do in a year or so i have no idea. i may not even own the jeep in a year or two. i tend to think big. but it never ends up getting done.

if a well build mustang can handle dropping the clutch at 6 grand with slicks . then an 8.8 will hold up fine in a jeep

go 8.8 and regear your 30, and wheel it! building it big from the start would be money saving i guess? but youll always been unhappy anyways, cause everyone wants to build bigger

im going to call around tomorrow and get some prices on an 8.8. hopefully ill have it in a few weeks and hopefully it will be under the jeep by the spring

thats what ill prob do. ill prob end up getting new axle shafts just for added strength and ill keep the stock ones for back-ups

unless you are very throttle happy I dont think you will need new shafts. You could get another stock set for spares and probably never use them.

may i ask why you're so motivated to increase your tire size? you can wheel the hell out of those ltb's on some pretty good trails. You dont need 35's or 36's to have a good time on the trail.
